Project director for the reconstruction of Tyra, Morten
Hesselager Pedersen, moved from Maersk Oil to Total
along with his staff. Supplemented by staff from Total,
good progress has been made on the large and complex
project.
Overall, the project consists of three main elements: the
dismantling and decommisioning of the existing facili-
ties, the modifications to the elements which will be
re-used, and fabrication of the new facilities. It is quite a
jigsaw puzzle holding a task like this together. ‘Closing
a field like Tyra is a gigantic task which involves much
more than turn a tap,’ says Morten Hesselager Pedersen. As part of the preparation for the shut-in, the Tyra field’s

and shielding pipelines to the Tyra field, constructing six
kilometres of new pipeline and re-routing production
from the southern fields (Dan, Gorm and Halfdan with
satellites) to the Netherlands, as well as closing and se-
curing the Tyra field’s five satellites. A bit of a mouthful,
you might think, but the goal has been reached on time.
In the coming months, a workforce of up to 750 people
will prepare for the final dismantling of the old plat-
forms in 2020, paving the way for the emergence of a
new Tyra field.
