NEW CHALLENGES ON THE HORIZON The organisation is ready, so now the challenges grow more concrete for Center for Oil and Gas – DTU venturing into new land in its chase for making a difference. “The basic idea is for us to do something that has never been done before. Strong research environments did ex- ist before our Center was founded, so it was not born to produce “more from the same pot” as you do not need center for that. But our unique position between univer- sity and industry and between many different research institutions and –groups provides us with the important role of making activities fuse laterally. Partly across disci- plines and partly across levels of maturity from research to practical use. Our work is based i.a. on fnding and exploring new paths when considering constellations of cooperation never established before. Some of our work comprises of setting up cooperation between disciplines never before having worked in oil and gas as letting loose their unbiased perspectives may generate new knowledge when integrated in our activities,” explains Bo Cerup-Simonsen, Head of Danish Hydrocarbon Re- search and Technology Center, established in 2014. After starting from scratch – or to take a positive view – having all opportunities lying wide open, Bo Cerup- Simonsen by now has hired a core staff of 35 persons involved in research and in recruiting and attached researchers from DTU (Denmark’s Technical University) and other institutions. And in addition to that he is plan- ning the future research, thereby taking the frst steps for meeting the plans for an environment where the academic world joins hands with industry. An important requirement for the Center was for it to merge the two environments and now this scope is to prove its worth. “We have launched our frst major research program addressing the challenges and the potentials related to water injection of the felds Halfdan, Kraka and Dan. It is a major program to which we have earmarked DKK 100 million. Its foundation is all acquired knowledge from Bo Cerup-Simonsen, Head of Danish Hydrocarbon i.a. geological data and explanatory reports stretching all Researchand Technology Center. the way to new technologies and results from research. It is a large step forward and obviously most ▲ 49 / NEW CHALLENGES ON THE HORIZON
